A 25-litre backpack in Cordura, made by the team that builds Matrix Pro expedition packs. Cliff borrows that construction and points it at the street rather than the mountain — though it will take a short hike without complaint.

The main compartment holds a padded sleeve for a laptop up to 17 inches, plus several smaller pockets, one of them zipped. The large front pocket has its own zipped compartment and two open ones, which is where the things you need in transit end up.

Cordura is waterproof and resists abrasion — the property that decides whether a bag looks tired after two years or after ten.
