The sauna case: why linen wins
A sauna robe is worn between rounds, on the way out to cool down and in the rest room afterwards. In that use, a cotton terry robe fails in a predictable way: after two rounds it is full of moisture, heavy, and cold against the skin the moment you sit down outside. Linen releases moisture as fast as it takes it on. The robe stays light through the whole evening, and on the hook afterwards it is dry by morning. This is the reason a linen robe has been the sauna robe in Finland, Estonia and Lithuania long before it became a design object anywhere else.
The bath case: when cotton is the right answer
Step out of a hot bath into a room at 18°C in January and you want weight and warmth. Cotton terry at 400 g/m² does both. It soaks up the water still on your skin in one pass and holds heat while you stand there. Linen will dry you, but with more movement, and it will not feel warm. If your robe is a winter garment first and a drying garment second, buy terry.
The waffle blend: one robe for both

How to care for a linen bathrobe
Wash at 40°C with a mild detergent. No fabric softener: it coats the fibre and reduces absorbency. No bleach. Line dry or tumble on low. The natural crinkle is the point; do not iron. Prewashed linen, which is what we carry, does not shrink.
