Editor's note
Leather at Snøluv comes from named makers: Trendbag and Stella Soomlais, both making bags by hand in Estonia, and PYKOK, RR, Zelma Kraft and Papillon. Stella Soomlais uses bark tanned leather and makes each backpack to order. Some bags combine materials, such as Nordhale's felt totes with leather handles and RR's herringbone shopper on a leather base.
Leather, explained
What is bark tanned leather?
Leather tanned with tannins from tree bark instead of chromium salts. It takes longer to make, is firmer when new, and darkens and develops a patina with use. Stella Soomlais uses it for its backpacks.
How do I care for a leather bag?
Wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth, keep it away from long direct sun and from heat, and treat it with a leather balm now and then. Let a wet bag dry slowly at room temperature, never on a radiator.
Which leather bag fits a laptop?
Trendbag's Barbara is a laptop backpack, and Zelma Kraft's red saddle bag is made as a laptop bag. RR's doctor style backpacks come in medium and large. Compare the inner measurements on each product page with your laptop.
Why does a made to order bag take longer?
Stella Soomlais starts cutting a backpack after the order is placed. The production time is stated on the product page, and the whole order can take up to 3 to 4 weeks before delivery.
