Details

There are two Hallas. This is the lined one: the same felt upper, with real lambswool sewn in as a separate lining. The unlined Halla in light grey is felt all the way through and costs less.

Choose this one if the floors are cold. The lambswool is the warmest thing in the collection and it sits directly against the foot.

Material

A natural wool felt upper with a lining of 100% lambswool, on a durable rubber sole that also resists staining. Lambswool as a lining behaves differently from felt: it traps more air, so it is warmer, and it compresses over time rather than staying uniform.

Maker

Omaking is a family shoe workshop in southern Estonia that has been making footwear since 1927. It works in natural wool felt and lambswool, cuts and sews by hand, and keeps the range small. TOKU is its design line, drawn by Piibe Tomp, named Estonian Young Designer of the Year in 2018.

Size & Fit

Sizes run in pairs: 35/36, 37/38, 39/40, 41/42, 43/44, 45/46 and 47/48.

Unisex. If you are between two sizes, take the larger pair.

Wool felt gives a little with wear, so a snug pair loosens rather than the other way round.

Care

Take off pilling with a fabric shaver or a razor. Wool felt pills, and it is not a fault.
Hand wash, or machine wash at 30 °C on the wool programme with a gentle spin, inside a laundry bag.
Use a mild wool detergent. Do not bleach and do not tumble dry.
Air dry away from radiators, dryers and underfloor heating.
Washing can change the look of the leather labels.

Estonia

A workshop that has been making shoes in Estonia since 1927, still cutting felt by hand. Wool felt is warm without being airless, which is why a pair works on a heated floor as well as on a cold one. When they need it, they go in the machine at 30 °C and come back in shape.
