Moomin Adventure Raincoat

Yellow Moomin raincoat by Nordicbuddies, waterproof and cut long to below the hip.

  • Waterproof polyurethane shell, taped seams
  • Long cut, curved hem below the hip
  • Official Moomin licence, drawn by Tove Jansson
  • Waterproof pockets that button shut

Details

The Adventure raincoat in bright yellow, the most visible of the three colourways and the closest to a traditional fisherman's oilskin. The back print shows a Moomin sheltering in a tent while the rain comes down, drawn by Tove Jansson.

The same coat is made in Dark Green and Lilac. Cut long, with a curved hem that falls well below the hip.

Material

A 60% polyester and 40% polyurethane shell: a coated fabric rather than a laminate, which is what makes it fully waterproof rather than merely water repellent. Seams are taped as well as stitched, and the pockets are sealed and close with a button.

Maker

Nordicbuddies is a design house founded in Finland at the end of 2019, working from Finland and Sweden under official Moomin licence. Prints are taken from Tove Jansson's own drawings rather than redrawn approximations, which is the difference between a licensed piece and a lookalike. The founders grew up with the 90s animation and design for adults who still read the books.

Size & Fit

Unisex sizing, S to XXL. The cut is long: a curved hem that falls well below the hip, closer to a coat than a jacket.

Both models photographed are around 175 cm and wear size L.

The full measurement chart is in the image gallery.

Moomin

Tove Jansson drew the first Moomin in 1945. Nordicbuddies began in 2019, designed in Finland and licensed to put those original Moominvalley drawings onto clothing rather than souvenirs. Outerwear is where the licence earns its keep: a print you will still want on a coat in ten years.
