Editor's note

Alpaca at Snøluv comes from Alpaka, a brand that designs its knitwear in Estonia and has it made in Peru, where alpacas are raised. The range covers baby alpaca scarves in plain, herringbone, check and fisherman's rib, a fringed wrap, a beanie, long and mid length socks, and hats for children.

Alpaca, explained

What is baby alpaca?

Baby alpaca is not wool from young animals. It is the finest grade of alpaca fibre, taken from the softest part of the fleece, and is used for knitwear worn close to the skin, such as scarves and wraps.

Does alpaca itch?

Alpaca fibre has no lanolin and a smooth surface, so many people who find sheep's wool scratchy can wear it. Sensitivity varies from person to person.

How do I care for alpaca?

Hand wash cool with a wool detergent, press the water out in a towel and dry flat. Do not wring or tumble dry. Airing the piece between wears is often enough.

How much alpaca is in the socks?

The alpaca socks contain 44% alpaca, with a reinforced heel and toe, in sizes 34 to 45. The exact composition of every piece is on its product page.
