Editor's note

Footwear made in Estonia: leather boots from Samelin, the factory that makes the M77 combat boot, boots stitched by hand to order by AIPI in Tallinn, and wool felt slippers from Omaking, a family workshop making shoes since 1927. Every product page names its maker.

Footwear, explained

What footwear is in the range?

Two kinds. Leather boots: combat, desert, hiking, winter and everyday ankle boots, with overboots and inner socks for the M77. And wool felt slippers for adults and children, from open back mules to ankle high slippers lined with lambswool.

Where are the boots and slippers made?

All of them in Estonia. Samelin works to the NATO AQAP 2110 quality standard and ISO 9001. AIPI makes each pair by hand in Tallinn after it is ordered. Omaking cuts and sews its felt slippers by hand in southern Estonia.

How do I choose my size?

The boots use EU sizes from 32 to 52, depending on the model. Several Samelin boots run large, and the product page says when to take one size down. Slippers come in single sizes or in pairs such as 41/42, each with its own size guide.

Are they for women or for men?

Both. Most of the boots are made unisex, and so are most of the slippers; a few slipper models come only in smaller sizes. Children have their own wool felt slippers.

How do I care for leather boots and felt slippers?

Let wet boots dry slowly at room temperature, away from radiators, and keep the leather greased or waxed. Most Omaking felt slippers can be machine washed at 30 °C on a wool programme; the TOKU line should not be machine washed. Each product page gives the maker's care instructions.

How much is delivery, and can I return a pair?

Delivery is free to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania on every order, and free across the EU on orders from €150. AIPI boots are made to order and leave the workshop in 7 to 14 working days. Every order can be returned within 30 days of the order date; the full terms are in the returns policy.
