Details
The 517 is the plainest boot in the Samelin range: an ankle boot in brown leather with a rounded toe, a short lace row and a moulded sole. It is made in the same factory as the M77.
Brown is the warmer of the two colours and shows creasing as character rather than wear.
Material
Upper in water repellent genuine leather, lined with leather only. Direct injected PU outsole. The anatomical insole is antibacterial and washable, and comes out. About 1.2 kg a pair in size 41.
Maker
Samelin is a boot factory in Estonia. It makes the M77, a combat boot first issued to the Norwegian army more than 50 years ago, and has made hiking boots for more than 20 years. Production follows the NATO AQAP 2110 quality standard and ISO 9001.
Size & Fit
EU sizes 35 to 48, unisex.
The boot has no lining besides leather, so in freezing weather wear warmer socks. A size chart in centimetres is among the photos.
Care
Brush off dirt and wipe the leather with a damp cloth.
Let wet boots dry slowly at room temperature, away from radiators and direct heat.
Keep the leather greased or waxed so it stays supple and water repellent.
Full leather boots take a little time to wear in.

Estonia
Samelin makes boots in Estonia, including the M77 issued to the Norwegian army for more than half a century. The leather is thick, the soles are moulded straight onto the upper, and the insoles come out to be washed. Boots like these take a few weeks to wear in, then they stay.
