Editor's note
Felt at Snøluv comes in two kinds. Omaking, an Estonian workshop, makes house slippers in natural wool felt and lambswool for adults and children. Nordhale makes totes, briefcases, backpacks and laptop sleeves by hand in Estonia from recycled PET felt, pressed from the fibres of used drinks bottles.
Felt, explained
What is the difference between wool felt and recycled felt?
Wool felt is made by pressing wool fibres together with heat, moisture and movement until they lock. Recycled PET felt is pressed from polyester fibres made from used drinks bottles. Wool felt is warm and breathable, which suits slippers; PET felt holds its shape and stands up to light rain, which suits bags.
Can wool felt slippers be washed?
Omaking's felt models can be machine washed at 30 °C on a wool programme in a laundry bag, with a mild wool detergent. The TOKU line has a coated sole and should not be machine washed. Each product page carries the maker's own care instructions.
Does a felt laptop sleeve protect a laptop?
Nordhale's felt is thick enough to protect a laptop without added padding. Sleeves come in 13 inch and 15 to 16 inch sizes, with the measurements on each product page.
How do I choose a slipper size?
Wool felt loosens with wear rather than tightening, so choose a snug fit. Felt mules come in paired sizes such as 37/38; if you are between sizes, take the larger pair, and size up for models with a wool lining.
